Construction to shut down stretch of Loop 101 in north Valley this weekend

PHOENIX – North Valley drivers should watch out for a major construction-related freeway closure this weekend.

The closure is required for a freeway-widening project on the Loop 101 Agua Fria Freeway, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation Weekend Freeway Travel Advisory for July 11-14. (All times below are subject to change.)

Three miles of westbound Loop 101 — from Interstate 17 to 51st Avenue — will be out of commission from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

Both ramps from I-17 to westbound Loop 101 plus the westbound Loop 101 on-ramps at Seventh Street and Seventh Avenue will also be closed.

In addition, the westbound Loop 101 frontage road will be closed from 35th to 51st avenues from 3 a.m. to 10 a.m. Sunday for pavement marking.

Motorists should expect delays and seek alternate routes.

Are there other construction-related closures this weekend?

Metro Phoenix drivers should also be aware of two other freeway construction projects this weekend.

In Scottsdale, both directions of Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard will be closed at the Loop 101 Pima Freeway from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for a widening project.

In Chandler, the westbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway off-ramp at Arizona Avenue will be closed from 2 a.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday for work on a widening project.

As part of the Loop 202 project, the eastbound off-ramp at Alma School Road will be closed for two months starting Wednesday.
