ADOT postpones scheduled closure of East Valley freeway exit

PHOENIX — The scheduled 60-day closure of an East Valley freeway exit has been postponed, transportation officials announced Monday.

The eastbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway off-ramp at Alma School Road in Chandler was originally scheduled to close for two months starting Wednesday night, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

No reason was given for the postponement. The closure, part of an ongoing widening project, will be rescheduled, ADOT said.

Details on Loop 202 widening project

The $200 million Loop 202 project started last August and is meant to improve traffic on the freeway between Loop 101 and Val Vista Drive in Chandler and Gilbert.  It spans 8 miles and is expected to take over two years to complete.

Two lanes in each direction will be added between Loop 101 and Gilbert Road, and one lane will be added each way between Gilbert Road and Val Vista Drive.

Additionally, bridges will be widened and interchanges reconstructed over the length of the project. On- and off-ramps are being closed for about two months at a time so they can be rebuilt to fit the wider freeway.
