Lanes reopen after cement mixer crash spilled concrete on I-10

A four-vehicle crash involving an overturned cement truck closed nearly all westbound lanes of Interstate 10 at Fairway Drive, creating major backups through the West Valley Monday morning.

All lanes reopened as of 11:30 a.m.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety said the cement truck rolled over in the crash, spilling fresh concrete across the highway. At least one person was injured. All westbound lanes shut down except the HOV lane around 10 a.m.

The Arizona Department of Transportation reported the backup stretched past 75th Avenue to Loop 101. Crews worked to clear the wreckage, debris and spilled material from the roadway.

The crash added to what was already a congested morning for West Valley drivers.

Arizona’s first Buc-ee’s travel center opened Monday in Goodyear, drawing large crowds and heavy traffic along I-10 near Bullard Avenue.
