Bridge improvement project will impact I-17 traffic near Sedona

PHOENIX — Planning a trip to Sedona? You may want to adjust your departure time. A bridge improvement project on Interstate 17 will slow traffic near the Sedona exit.

Starting Sunday, crews will repair the bridge over state Route 179, which is on southbound I-17 near the Sedona exit, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The work will narrow southbound I-17 to one lane around the clock at the Sedona turnoff — milepost 299 — so crews can make “significant improvements, including:

• Repairing underlying concrete
• Constructing new bridge approach slabs
• Replacing parts of the guardrail
• Removing and replacing the bridge deck’s pavement overlay

Drivers should slow down as they approach the work zone, especially downhill.

The speed limit will drop to 45 mph, ADOT said.

A brake-check area for semitrucks will be in place at the southbound I-17 scenic overlook at milepost 312.

The project is expected to be completed in late summer.
