Arizona Republican Party Chair Gina Swoboda to step down in January

PHOENIX — Arizona Republican Party Chair Gina Swoboda announced that she will step down from her position in January to focus on her congressional campaign.

Swoboda said Monday on social media that she is running for the state’s 1st Congressional District (CD1) in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Her successor as Arizona’s Republican Party Chair will likely be chosen at the next mandatory Republican meeting on Jan. 24.

How did Gina Swoboda become the Arizona Republican Party Chair?

She was originally selected in 2024 after the resignation of Jeff DeWit, who stepped down after a recording was released by Kari Lake in which DeWit bribed Lake to drop out of the 2024 gubernatorial race.

Swoboda was reelected to a two-year term in 2025, defeating Cory McGarr by a vote of 978-758.

She now joins a crowded field to represent CD-1, which was vacated by incumbent David Schwiekert after he entered the race.

Swoboda is one of eight Republicans to announce their candidacy, while 12 Democrats have filed statements of interest.
