PHOENIX — From a Phoenix hiker who says he was stung 100 times by bees to a U.S. service member who was rescued after Iran downed their fighter jet and more, here are some of the biggest Arizona news stories from April 3-5.

Hiker who says he was stung over 100 times by bees on Phoenix mountain in critical condition

A hiker who said he was stung over 100 times by bees on a mountain in Phoenix was hospitalized in critical condition on Saturday.

Rescue teams from the Phoenix and Glendale fire departments responded to Lookout Mountain around 10 a.m. for reports of multiple bee stings.

When they made contact with the man near the summit, he told them that he could not continue his descent after being “stung over 100 times,” according to Phoenix Fire Department Capt. Todd Keller.

Six new tenants announced in growing GSQ development in Goodyear

Six new tenants, including restaurants, a nail salon and a Pilates studio, signed leases at GSQ, an 150-acre mixed-use development taking shape in Goodyear.

The growing development is situated around Goodyear Civic Square, which is near McDowell Road and Bullard Avenue.

The new additions include Paris Baguette, Handel’s Ice Cream, Berry Divine Acai Bowls, Magdalena’s and Zara Nail Bar. The sixth business, Reformed Pilates studio, is also expanding to Old Town Scottsdale and Surprise, in addition to the GSQ location.

Chandler High School student dies at hospital days after being hit by vehicle

A Chandler High School student has died two days after he was hit by a vehicle near the school, authorities said.

Chandler police and fire crews responded to the pedestrian crash near Arizona Avenue and Detroit Street just after noon on Thursday.

The pedestrian was not using a crosswalk to cross the street when they were hit by a vehicle, according to witnesses.

$30 million ultra-luxury enclave approved in Paradise Valley

A four-home luxury community valued at more than $30 million has been approved for development on nearly 10 acres in Paradise Valley.

The Paradise Valley Town Council recently approved the entitlement for Quail Run Manor, clearing the way for construction of the gated enclave just south of The Ritz-Carlton.

US service member missing after Iran shot down fighter jet has been rescued

A U.S. service member who has been missing since Iran shot down a fighter jet has been rescued, President Donald Trump wrote in a social media post.

A frantic U.S. search-and-rescue operation unfolded after the crash of the F-15E Strike Eagle jet on Friday, as Iran also promised a reward for anyone who turned in the “enemy pilot.”

A second crew member was rescued earlier.

Trump wrote that the aviator is injured but “will be just fine,” adding that he took refuge “in the treacherous mountains of Iran.”
