Vehicle-pedestrian collision in Phoenix leaves 1 man dead

PHOENIX — A man has died following a vehicle-pedestrian collision in Phoenix on Thursday morning, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

At around 4:40 a.m., police responded to a collision near 43rd and Clarendon avenues. Upon arrival, they found 43-year-old Freddie Begay with injuries. Life-saving efforts were made but Begay was pronounced dead on scene.

Upon investigation, authorities said Begay was walking mid-block on 43rd Avenue when he was struck by a vehicle heading northbound.

Authorities said impairment was a possible factor related to Begay, while the driver was not impaired.

The investigation remain ongoing. No other information was made available.
