Timothy Courchaine named interim United States Attorney for Arizona

PHOENIX — Timothy Courchaine was named as the Interim United States Attorney for the District of Arizona on Monday.

Courchaine was sworn in after his appointment by Attorney General Pam Bondi on Feb. 28.

Courchaine will preside over the prosecution of all federal crimes and civil matters in the District of Arizona that pertain to the United States. There are seven million residents in the district.

He will lead a staff of approximately 350 prosecutors, civil litigators and support staff across the state.

Courchaine has served the District of Arizona since 2020. He previously worked as an Assistant U.S. Attorney and oversaw criminal cases pertaining to border crimes and other cases involving the Mexican-based cartels. 

Before his time with the Department of Justice, Courchaine worked as a Judge Advocate in the United States Marine Corps, eventually becoming a Captain.

He later served as a law clerk on the Arizona Supreme Court from 2019 to 2020 to the Honorable William G. Montgomery.

Courchaine earned his doctorate from the University of Alabama in 2014 and received his bachelor’s degree from California State University, Long Beach, in 2011.
