Gonzalez was seen waving a gun on the side of I-10 near Tempe Diablo Stadium before firing shots at a passing vehicle, police said. The driver, who was not injured by the gunfire, exited the freeway and called authorities.

Gonzalez then ran through the stadium parking lot toward the Tempe resort.

He confronted two contracted resort employees and ordered them to lie on the ground before firing several shots at them, police said.

The employees, who suffered injuries believed to have been caused by shrapnel, were able to run off.

Gonzalez then tried to carjack a woman on the resort grounds, but the woman ran away from the vehicle, police said.

Officers arrived at the scene and took Gonzalez into custody in the resort parking lot.
