Suspect arrested for deadly shooting in Tempe Marketplace parking lot

PHOENIX – An arrest has been made in this week’s deadly shooting in a Tempe Marketplace parking lot, authorities announced Wednesday.

Fernando Gallegos, 20, is accused of killing 19-year-old Dominic Baysinger after they’d arranged a meeting to complete an online transaction, according to the Tempe Police Department.

Gallegos was booked into jail on Tuesday on one count each of first-degree murder, conspiracy and armed robbery with a deadly weapon. His bond was set at $1.2 million.

No details about how Gallegos was identified as the suspect were immediately available.

What did authorities say about deadly Tempe Marketplace shooting?

Baysinger was killed around 11 a.m. Monday in a parking lot outside Road Runner Sports in Tempe Marketplace.

He’d gone to the large outdoor mall near McClintock Drive and Rio Salado Parkway with his girlfriend after arranging a transaction online, police said. The suspect fled the scene after the shooting.

When officers arrived, they found Baysinger with critical injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

It was Monday’s second deadly shooting in Tempe. Earlier, a man allegedly killed his wife and her coworker at the Little Caesars near Rural and Guadalupe roads.

Benjaman Visser Jr., 27, was arrested on two counts of first-degree murder in that case.
