PHOENIX — An Arizona man who was wanted on several felonies was killed Sunday during a shootout involving SWAT teams, according to authorities.

Case Taylor Chrouser, 38, of Toprock was involved in a domestic violence incident in Lake Havasu City the night before, according to Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.

Details on shootout involving SWAT teams

Members of the sheriff’s office SWAT team and the Lake Havasu Police Department SWAT team were deployed to a home near 1600 S. Smoketree Ave. to do a follow-up because of Chrouser’s criminal history.

Chrouser was wanted for several felony charges, including aggravated assault by domestic violence and theft of a firearm.

SWAT members saw Chrouser inside the house, but he didn’t respond to their attempts to negotiate. They also deployed gas, but that didn’t get him to come out.

Several hours later they entered the residence, but Chrouser remained barricaded in a bathroom.

The SWAT members deployed more gas and were able to get a camera into the bathroom. That allowed them to see the suspect pointing a gun toward the door.

Chrouser eventually came out and started shooting, prompting return fire, authorities said.

The suspect died from his injuries at the scene.

No law enforcement team members were injured.

The officers involved were put on paid administrative leave to follow standard protocol procedures.

The investigation is ongoing.
