SWAT team assists Buckeye Police in detaining 1 man after hourslong standoff

PHOENIX — A SWAT team helped arrest a man in Buckeye on Monday night near Miller and Southern roads, authorities said.

According to the Buckeye Police Department, the incident began around 8 p.m. and ended with 53-year-old Arthur Johnson coming out of the home just before 1 a.m.

Eventually, he came out of the house but ignored commands and started to walk away from officers, police said.

Police arrived to the scene for a welfare check and allegedly saw a man pointing a handgun at the door.

Attempts to establish communication with the suspect failed before SWAT arrived.

He was hit with less-lethal rounds and detained just before 1 a.m.

Johnson was booked on multiple felony charges including aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

Johnson suffered minor injuries in the interaction.
