Man allegedly attacks 2 roommates with axe in Apache Junction

A man experiencing a mental health crisis allegedly attacked two roommates with an axe in Apache Junction on Thursday, authorities said.

The 38-year-old suspect was taken into custody after the incident in a residential area near Meridian Drive and Lost Dutchmen Boulevard, according to the Apache Junction Police Department.

Two men, ages 28 and 40, were hospitalized afterward, with one suffering life-threatening injuries, police said.

There is no ongoing threat to the public, police said.

Authorities initially described the incident as a stabbing.

The investigation is ongoing.
