Phoenix Police seeking charges against 6 people in connection with Christmas shooting at Sky Harbor

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Police Department is seeking charges against six people in connection to a Christmas night shooting at Sky Harbor Airport, authorities said Wednesday.

Upon investigation, authorities said they submitted cases to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office and the Juvenile Court Center (JCC) that requested charges against three adults and three minors in connection to the shooting. 

Suggested charges in the case include unlawful imprisonment, disorderly conduct, aggravated assault, facilitation and assault.

Authorities said the case awaits charging decisions from the MCAO and JCC.

What led to Phoenix police seeking charges in Sky Harbor shooting case?

On Christmas night at 9:45 p.m., police responded to a shooting call at the Phoenix airport. Upon arrival, police found three people, an adult male, female and a teenage boy with gunshot wounds.

Police said that five people — three adults and two teens — were involved in a physical altercation within a restaurant at Terminal 4 when one of them pulled out a gun and fired it multiple times. The gunfire struck the woman and teenage boy, and the male sustained minor injuries due to the shooting. The teen who was shot also stabbed the man who pulled the trigger.

Police found the alleged shooter and a teenage girl in a parking garage and detained them.

The woman who was shot was in stable but critical condition, police said on Dec. 26. The three other people who were injured were treated and released from the hospital.

Security checkpoint and PHX Sky Train operations were paused temporarily as a precaution, but no flights were affected.

In another incident later that night, a man was arrested after showing up at the airport with guns and allegedly assaulting an officer.

Cole Nenon, 21, gave his weapons to people in the terminal before getting into an altercation with an officer, authorities said. He allegedly struck and spit on the officer before getting arrested.
