PHOENIX – U.S. Sen. Martha McSally is all for Arizonans going out more and more when an executive stay-at-home order expires later this week. In fact, she’s already done that.

“I got my hair cut on Saturday, got a pedicure on Sunday,” McSally said Wednesday on KTAR News 92.3’s The Mike Broomhead Show.

“It’s time for us to be safely allowing more activities.”

Gov. Doug Ducey announced Tuesday that the state would implement the first phase of reopening after the order ends Friday at 11:59 p.m. New guidelines to continue to fight the spread of coronavirus were to go into effect in place of stay-at-home.

He had allowed retail shops, barber shops, hair salons to reopen May 4 if they followed guidelines and announced Tuesday further coronavirus safety restrictions would be lifted.

Pools and gyms could begin to reopen Wednesday and movie theaters can do so starting Saturday.

Restaurants were given the go-ahead to resume limited dine-in service Monday.

“I appreciate the governor’s measured and thoughtful approach on this,” McSally said of the precautions that have followed guidelines set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

But McSally emphasized the need to remain careful around vulnerable groups and individuals.

“We do have a free country here, while being mindful of the fact [that] the virus is among us.”

Arizona reported 440 new cases of the virus and 32 more deaths Wednesday. There are 12,176 cases overall and 594 fatalities.
