SAFE Alert canceled after missing 59-year-old man last seen in Mesa located

PHOENIX — A SAFE Alert issued for a missing 59-year-old man last seen in Mesa was canceled, authorities announced Thursday.

The alert for Ronald Mounts, who was last seen on foot leaving his residence near Gilbert and Baseline roads around noon on Monday, was canceled just a few hours after it was issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS).

Mounts was tracked to a Phoenix intersection via phone by family members, according to the Mesa Police Department. He was taken to a hospital for further evaluation.

According to DPS, Mounts has a medical condition that may cause him to appear lost or easily confused.

SAFE Alerts have replaced Silver Alerts in Arizona as way to spread the word about missing persons 65 and older or who suffer from dementia or developmental/cognitive disabilities.

NOTE: These are different from the Turquoise Alerts started earlier this year, which we also cover for the Valley. Turquoise Alerts are for missing persons younger than 65 who don’t meet the dementia or disability requirements for a SAFE Alert.
