SAFE Alert issued for 78-year-old missing man

Michael Chernek was last seen Friday morning and has a medical condition that may cause disorientation. Anyone who sees him is asked to call 911.

Authorities issued a SAFE Alert for a missing man who was last seen in Gilbert.

Michael Chernek was last seen on Friday at 9 a.m. near Gilbert and Warner roads.

Chernek is described as 5 feet, 8 inches tall and 150 pounds, with a bald head and brown eyes.

Authorities did not know what clothes he was last seen wearing.

Chernek suffers from a medical condition that may cause him to become disoriented or easily confused.

Anyone who sees Chernek is asked to call 911.

SAFE Alerts have replaced Silver Alerts in Arizona as a way to spread the word about missing persons who are 65 and older and missing persons who have dementia or developmental/cognitive disabilities.
