SAFE Alert canceled after 72-year-old man last seen in Chandler found safe

A SAFE Alert that was issued Saturday, Sept. 12, for a missing 72-year-old man last seen in Chandler was canceled Friday night, authorities said.

The alert was canceled when Ronnie Mellberg was found safely by the Mesa Police Department and returned home.

On Sept. 12, Mellberg was last seen between 8 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. near Chandler Boulevard and Washington Street, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

SAFE Alerts have replaced Silver Alerts in Arizona as a way to spread the word about missing persons who are 65 and older and missing persons who have dementia or developmental/cognitive disabilities.
