Police believe that missing Avondale woman had ‘life-threatening injury’ at time of disappearance

PHOENIX — As the search for missing Avondale woman Isabella Comas continues, police shared Thursday that they believe she had a “life-threatening injury” when she disappeared.

In the update, the Avondale Police Department said based on evidence found in Comas’ car — including a large amount of blood and the front passenger seat being removed — detectives believe she sustained an injury that if left untreated “may be unsurvivable.”

The passenger seat has not been recovered. Police said it is upholstered in brown cloth material and believed to have bloodstains on it.

Police added that 39-year-old Tommy Rodriguez, a romantic partner of Comas, remains a person of interest and is believed to be connected with her Jan. 11 disappearance.

“Investigation has revealed a person believed to be Mr. Rodriguez … was driving Miss Comas’ vehicle in the Globe area between 1:30 a.m. and 3 a.m. on Jan. 12,” Avondale police spokesperson Jaret Redfearn said in a press release. “Which was after her disappearance and before the vehicle was discovered abandoned in Phoenix.”

Police announced the expansion of the search for Comas to the Globe area on Jan. 22.

Comas was last seen by a friend near Van Buren Street and Avondale Boulevard around 3 p.m. on Jan. 11.

Authorities issued a Turquoise Alert for Comas on Jan. 13.

Authorities also renewed their call to the public for help, asking anyone in the Globe area on Jan. 12 or who has access to video surveillance to check for footage of Comas, her vehicle or the man pictured in the above photos.

Police previously said Comas was on her way to visit her boyfriend in the area of 91st Avenue and Indian School Road in Phoenix when she was last seen.

A friend notified police after Comas didn’t arrive to pick her up from work, as usual. Comas also did not show up for work on Jan. 12 and could not be reached by phone, police added.

After tracking Comas’ cellphone, police located it on Jan. 12 at a recycling center in Phoenix. Her car was located on the night of Jan. 13 near 67th Avenue and Indian School Road.

Comas is described as 5 feet, 3 inches tall and 110 pounds. She is Hispanic and has pink hair and brown eyes.

Comas was last seen wearing a white shirt with a black logo on the front, blue pants with a white line going down the side and possibly sandals.

Turquoise Alerts are issued when a missing person is under the age of 65, local law enforcement has exhausted all available resources, the person is believed to be in danger or in the company of someone potentially dangerous and the circumstances surrounding the disappearance are unexplained or suspicious.
