Phoenix temperature dips below 90 degrees for first time in over a week

PHOENIX – For the first time in over a week, the temperature in Phoenix dropped below 90 degrees Wednesday morning.

The thermometer dipped to 89 degrees at 5:12 a.m., breaking a 90-plus stretch that lasted seven days, 21 hours and 56 minutes, according to the National Weather Service in Phoenix.

The last sub-90 temperature had been recorded July 7.

However, Phoenix has another “hot” streak that shows no sign of ending.

It hit at least 110 degrees Tuesday for the 11th straight day, tying fourth-longest such streak ever recorded, according to the National Weather Service.

If it touches 110 again Wednesday, it would tie the third-longest streak, which occurred June 26-April 7 of 2007.

With daily highs of at least 109 degrees in the Phoenix forecast at least through Sunday, the record of 18 consecutive days of a least 110 set June 12-29 in 1974 could be in danger.

The current streak includes the hottest day of 2020, 115 degrees on Saturday, and two days where daily records were reached.
