Drunk driver sentenced to 24 years for crash in Gilbert that killed Lyft driver, 2 passengers

A 36-year-old man was sentenced to 24 years in prison for having a blood alcohol that was three times more than the legal limit when he caused a September 2025 crash in Gilbert that killed a driver and two passengers, officials announced Tuesday.

Robb Louis Hintzsche pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder for his role in the fatal collision, according to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.

“This man made a deliberate decision to drink a large amount of alcohol and used his vehicle at a speed nearly twice the legal limit. His actions have left two children without their mother, and a family lost their daughter because of the defendant’s reckless actions,” County Attorney Rachel Mitchell said in a news release. “Nothing can make up for this unimaginable loss, but we hope the justice achieved in this case offers a measure of closure to these families and their community.”

Hintzsche was under the influence when he ran a red light while driving westbound on Ray Road and crashed into a car with Lyft driver Nicole Snell, her service dog Bellini and 33-year-old Marisa Jorgenson inside. The crash caused the vehicle to spin and collide with a traffic pole, killing all three passengers, prosecutors said.

Before the crash, Hintzsche was speeding, weaving in and out of traffic and made no attempt to slow down, according to witnesses and vehicle data.

Prior to hitting Snell’s car, he struck another vehicle and caused it to drive into the bike lane, but the driver was not injured.
