Phoenix hits record temperature for second consecutive day

PHOENIX — Monday marked the second consecutive day in which Phoenix temperatures hit record levels.

For the first time on this date since 1989, the temperature in Phoenix reached 114 degrees around 2:40 p.m. at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, according to the National Weather Service.

Phoenix set a daily record high temperature on Sunday when the temperature hit 116 degrees around 4:37 p.m.

Earlier on Sunday, the city also set a record for its warmest low temperature on that date, measured at 93 degrees.

On Saturday, Arizona experienced its hottest day of the year at the time when the mercury hit 115 around 3:30 p.m. after experiencing a daily record for warmest low temperature at 94 degrees.

Before Saturday, the hottest day for Phoenix in 2020 was 112 degrees. The city hit 110 degrees for the first time this year May 29.

An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect through 8 p.m. for south central and southwest Arizona.

Monday was the tenth consecutive day in which Phoenix temperatures were measured to be 110 degrees or greater.
