Phoenix bicyclist dead after being struck by car

A Phoenix bicyclist is dead after being struck by a car on Sunday morning, authorities said.

PHOENIX — A Phoenix bicyclist is dead after being struck by a car on Sunday morning, authorities said.

Larry Leon Schepp, 60, was identified as the man who died from injuries sustained in the collision, according to a Monday Phoenix Police Department announcement.

Phoenix police were called out at 6 a.m. near the area of 51st Avenue and Westcott Drive.

Early investigation suggests Schnepp was hit either riding or pushing his bicycle while attempting to cross 51st Avenue, according to police. 

The driver involved remained at the scene.

Schnepp was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died from his injuries, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.

Manslaughter. This is a small street in a residential neighborhood. There is no reason the driver would need to go fast enough to kill a cyclist. Car drivers need to be punished just like irresponsible gun owners. They are driving a killing machine.
