Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run involving 2 vehicles in Phoenix

Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run after two drivers struck and killed an 83-year-old woman on Wednesday night, authorities said.

Phoenix police identified the deceased pedestrian as Kang Dixon.

Officers were called to the area of 39th Avenue and McDowell Road around 9:50 p.m. and upon arrival found Dixon unresponsive. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Detectives said preliminary information suggests Dixon was first struck by what authorities believe was a tan Isuzu SUV while walking in the westbound curb lane of McDowell Road. She landed in the middle lane and was then hit by a white 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Neither of the drivers remained at the scene. However, witnesses were able to provide police with the Jeep’s license plate, which they are following up on.

Charging decisions are pending the reconstruction of the hit-and-run.
