Pedestrian killed in collision involving Phoenix bus

A pedestrian was killed early Thursday morning in a collision with a Valley Metro bus in west Phoenix.

Police responded to the collision near North 59th Avenue and West Van Buren Street just before 5 a.m. and found the woman “unresponsive and pinned under the front of the bus,” according to the Phoenix Police Department.

Phoenix firefighters pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

The Vehicular Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation, and early information suggests the woman was walking eastbound in a crosswalk on the south side of the intersection when the bus collided with her.

The bus driver remained at the scene, was uninjured and did not show any signs of impairment, police said.

Detectives and the medical examiner are working to identify the victim. The investigation is ongoing.
