PHOENIX — A new truck parking lot with 19 spaces has opened at the Sunset Point Rest Area on Interstate 17.
The new lot, located on Interstate 17 between Black Canyon City and Cordes Junction, is an addition to the already existing 27 spaces in an effort to expand commercial truck parking at the rest area, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
In addition to the new parking spaces, the $4.1 million ADOT project has also added waterless vaulted toilets and shaded ramadas to the Sunset Point Rest Area.
The expansion at Sunset Point is part of ADOT’s plan to build several hundred truck parking spaces in seven rest area sites across the state over the next year. Those include:
- Interstate 40 Parks : Located west of Flagstaff, the former closed facility will reopen in spring 2026 with 21 additional parking spaces to the existing 18 ones.
- Interstate 17 Christensen: Located south of Flagstaff, another formerly closed facility will also reopen in spring 2026 with 21 parking spaces for truck parking only.
- Interstate 40 Burnt Wells: The facility, located west of Phoenix, will see 125 spaces added in late 2026.
- Interstate Meteor Crater: Located west of Winslow, 133 spaces will be added in winter 2027.
