Mystery Castle temporarily closed after vandals damage Phoenix landmark

PHOENIX – A Phoenix landmark was vandalized over the weekend, and police are trying to find the person or people responsible.

The historic Mystery Castle, on the northern edge of South Mountain Park just east of Seventh Street, sustained “extensive damage” on Saturday, the Phoenix Police Department said on social media.

The quirky structure was built in the 1930s with 18 rooms and 13 fireplaces. Its “many charming nooks and crannies” are furnished “with southwestern antiques,” according to the landmark’s website.

The attraction is usually open for tours Thursdays-Sundays from October through May ($10 for ages 13 and up, $5 for 5-12), but it will be closed this weekend because of the vandalism.
