19-year-old man, 3 juveniles arrested for vandalism spree in Chandler

PHOENIX — A 19-year-old man and three juveniles were arrested Thursday for a rash of vehicle vandalism incidents over the past few weeks in Chandler, with the overall estimated damage estimated to be more than $75,000, authorities said.

Davion Lacy Lacour faces 12 counts of criminal damage, the Chandler Police Department said in a press release, while the juveniles were booked into the Durango Juvenile Detention Facility.

Police stopped his car near Alma School Road and Mesquite Street just before 1 a.m. after 12 vehicles in the area were damaged, authorities said.

Chandler police said they heard vehicle windows being broken and Lacour’s car leaving at a high rate of speed.

Approximately 67 criminal damage incidents were reported in Chandler from Feb. 1 to Feb. 15, according to the probable cause statement.

Police in the probable cause statement said the incidents were similar because they all involve unoccupied cars being damaged with smashed windows and/or slashed tires.

Several similar incidents were also reported by Mesa and Gilbert police during that same time period, authorities said.

Chandler police during the traffic stop found a ball pin hammer, a tire iron, a smaller axe-type knife, a switchblade knife and a metal pole, according to the probable cause statement.

Lacour allegedly admitted to police they had damaged cars on about five or six different nights and estimated they started a few weeks ago.

Lacour also said he mostly just drove around the juveniles but did admit to damaging about five vehicles on his own and said he knew what the juveniles were doing, according to the probable cause statement.

Detectives with the Chandler Police Department began looking into investigative leads of the incidents after Lacour was stopped on Monday, with the vehicle matching what had been seen on various surveillance videos.

The criminal investigations bureau continues to review video surveillance from victims and other residents, authorities said.
