Murder charge filed more than 3 years after Scottsdale woman disappeared

A Maricopa County grand jury recently indicted a man for one count of first-degree murder in connection with the 2023 disappearance of a Scottsdale woman named Erin Weber.

The Scottsdale Police Department said the indictment was handed down against 41-year-old Joseph Ryan Vigil after evidence was presented to the jury.

Weber has still not been found.

Scottsdale Police Chief Joe LeDuc said the department has remained committed to the case from the beginning. Over the years, detectives served multiple search warrants, worked with forensic specialists, processed extensive evidence, pursued new leads and reexamined the case.

“While today’s development reflects years of dedicated investigative work, our thoughts remain with Erin’s family as they continue to carry the weight of this loss,” LeDuc said in a Friday statement.

Weber was last seen in her Scottsdale apartment on Jan. 20, 2023, according to Missing People In America.

Her family shared the following statement:

Erin was our sister, aunt, cousin, niece, and a loyal friend, and she was deeply loved. Together, we grieve her loss. We choose to remember not how she left us, but rather all that she was, and everything she still might have been. We ask the press and public for privacy to mourn her. We have no further comment at this time.

Vigil’s bond was set at $1 million.
