PHOENIX – A man killed his wife and son before taking his own life on Sunday evening in a shocking murder-suicide in Phoenix, authorities said.
George Chin Ku, 68, shot three people at a home near 40th Street and Baseline Road, just north of South Mountain, before turning the gun on himself, according to the Phoenix Police Department.
When officers responded to a domestic violence call on the 3900 block of East Beverly Road around 4:45 p.m., they found Ku and his wife, 64-year-old Scarlett Shiu-Mei Ku, dead of gunshot wounds.
In addition, two men who’d been shot were still alive. However, Jeremy Jonathan Ku, the shooter’s 31-year-old son, died of his injuries after being taken to a hospital.
The other victim, whose name was not released, was hospitalized with injuries that aren’t considered life-threatening.
What did police say about murder-suicide near South Mountain?
“The preliminary investigation indicates that during a domestic violence incident between husband, George, and his wife Scarlett, George produced a firearm and shot Scarlett at least one time. George then fired his handgun in the direction of his son Jeremy and the other adult male inside of the home. After shooting both Jeremy and the other man, George turned the gun onto himself and ended his life,” Sgt. Robert Scherer said Monday in a media advisory.
Police said the investigation is ongoing, although there are no outstanding suspects in the murder-suicide case.
