Parking lot fight sees man, child shot dead and woman and other child injured in south Phoenix

PHOENIX — A man and child were shot dead, and a woman and another child were injured after a fight at a Lowe’s parking lot escalated to a shooting in south Phoenix on Saturday.

Phoenix police responded to the shooting near Baseline Road and 19th Avenue around 2:45 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers learned a physical altercation led to the shooting.

What led to the Lowe’s Phoenix parking lot shooting?

Police said the suspect and victims were in separate vehicles about to pull out of the Lowe’s parking lot before a physical fight began. After the fight, the individuals went back to their vehicles, and the suspect pulled out a gun and shot several rounds at the victim’s SUV, which had a man and woman sitting in the front and three children sitting in the back.

Four of the victims inside the SUV were struck by bullets, including a man, later identified as 30-year-old Quincy Jay Polk, who died at the scene.

Two of the three children were hit by the gunshots, including one child who was taken to the hospital in “extremely critical condition,” per Phoenix police. That child died later from their injuries.

The second child was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, while the third child who was not struck by the gunshots was taken to the hospital with the other victims.

According to witnesses, the woman pulled out her own gun and shot back at the suspect but was later taken to the hospital in “critical condition.”

The suspect, later identified as 28-year-old Tyrone Dee Chilly, was detained and then hospitalized for “unrelated health issues,” according to police, and remained there overnight.

Chilly was later released from the hospital and booked into jail on several charges, including two counts of murder and multiple charges of aggravated assault and endangerment

There were no outstanding suspects, according to police. “Large portions” of the scene were blocked off for investigation, Phoenix PD said on X.

The investigation remains ongoing, and detectives are asking for the public’s assistance to help learn what led to the incident.
