Motorcyclist killed in Phoenix crash after driver fails to yield

PHOENIX — A 43-year-old motorcyclist was killed Wednesday when he was hit by a turning car on Southern Avenue, Phoenix police said.

The wreck happened around 5:40 p.m. near Southern and 27th avenues. Jason David Irons-Raiter was riding his motorcycle westbound on Southern when he was hit by a car that turned in front of him into a private driveway. That driver failed to yield the right of way and hit Irons-Raiter, according to preliminary details released by Phoenix police.

Officers found Irons-Raiter in critical condition at the scene. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The other driver showed no signs of impairment, police said.

The case is still under investigation.
