Motorcyclist dies at hospital from injuries suffered in south Phoenix collision

PHOENIX — A motorcyclist died after he was involved in a south Phoenix collision on Monday evening, authorities said.

Officers who responded around 10:10 p.m. found the man, 70-year-old Jeffrey Barnes-Aversa, with serious injuries near 16th Street and Riverview Drive. He was taken to the hospital, where he died.

Detectives on the scene learned Barnes-Aversa was headed north on 16th Street when he collided with the other vehicle which was turning onto 16th Street from Riverview Drive.

The individual driving the other vehicle remained on scene and did not show signs of impairment, according to Phoenix Police Sgt. Robert Scherer.

A charging decision will be made after the accident reconstruction process is complete, authorities said.

The investigation remains ongoing.
