Woman in hospital after being hit by car while crossing the street in south Phoenix

PHOENIX — A female pedestrian is in the hospital after being struck by a car while crossing the street on Monday evening in south Phoenix, authorities said.

Police responded to the area of Southern and 19th avenues around 8:10 p.m. and discovered 79-year-old Carrie McGlory with “critical injuries,” according to the Phoenix Police Department.

Paramedics took McGlory to a nearby hospital where she is still being treated with her family at her side.

Details of pedestrian hit in south Phoenix

After an initial investigation, detectives learned McGlory was struck while she was in the two-way left turn lane when the vehicle was attempting to turn left onto southbound 19th Avenue.

The driver remained on scene after the collision and impairment is not believed to be a factor.

The investigation remains ongoing.

No other details were provided.

Editor’s Note: A previous version of this story posted July 15 said the McGlory was killed in the incident. The Phoenix Police Department initially identified McGlory as dead but later corrected that statement on July 22.
