1 dead, 1 seriously injured after motorcycle crashes into parked car in Peoria

One of the two people seriously injured when a motorcycle crashed into a parked car in Peoria over the weekend has died.

PHOENIX — One of the two people seriously injured when a motorcycle crashed into a parked car in Peoria over the weekend has died, authorities announced Monday.

Emergency crews responded to the area of 79th and Sweetwater avenues for reports of a collision involving a motorcycle just before 1 a.m. Sunday, according to the Peoria Police Department.

Two people who were on the motorcycle were taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The passenger, identified as Danielle Frison of Peoria, died of her injuries later that morning. The driver, Jose Martinez of Buckeye, remained in critical condition as of midday Monday.

What led up to deadly motorcycle crash in Peoria?

The motorcycle was heading north on 78th Drive near Sweetwater Avenue when the driver lost control, police said. Authorities believe speed and impairment contributed to the crash.

A criminal investigation is underway.

The intersection of 79th and Sweetwater avenues was closed during the investigation but reopened later Sunday.
