Charges dismissed against person of interest in Isabella Comas’ disappearance

Charges against a man identified as a person of interest in the case of a missing West Valley woman were dropped Thursday, according to court records.

Tommy Rodriguez, 39, was a romantic partner of Isabella Comas, a 21-year-old Avondale resident who went missing in January.

He had been facing theft and criminal damage charges related to Comas’ car, but the case was dismissed at the state’s request.

The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office told ABC15 the charges were dropped because “additional investigation was needed.”

Rodriguez previously pleaded not guilty and was out on bond when the case was dismissed without prejudice, meaning charges could be filed again.

After Rodriguez was taken into custody Jan. 14, police called him a person of interest in Comas’ disappearance.

When did Isabella Comas go missing?

Comas, 21, was last seen by a friend near Van Buren Street and Avondale Boulevard in Avondale on Jan. 11.

Her car, a red Hyundai Sonata, was located two days later near 67th Avenue and Indian School Road in Phoenix. Authorities issued a Turquoise Alert for Comas that night.

Turquoise Alerts are activated when a missing person is under the age of 65, local law enforcement has exhausted all available resources, the person is believed to be in danger or in the company of someone potentially dangerous, and the circumstances surrounding the disappearance are unexplained or suspicious.

On Feb. 5, the Avondale Police Department revealed that a large amount of blood was found in Comas’ car and the front passenger seat was missing.

Police also said Rodriguez was believed to be driving the vehicle in the Globe area in the early morning hours of Jan. 12. Comas failed to show up for work that day.

Comas is described as 5 feet, 3 inches tall and 110 pounds. She is Hispanic and has pink hair and brown eyes.
