Interstate 17 reopens north of Phoenix after 26-acre Cross Fire shut down traffic

Jul 8, 2023, 4:54 PM | Updated: Jul 9, 2023, 11:12 am

PHOENIX – Interstate 17 reopened in both directions north of Phoenix after the 26-acre Cross Fire slowed traffic to a snail’s crawl.

A horse trailer caught on fire while riding down the highway near Arcosanti, between State Route 69 and State Route 169, according to AZ State Forestry.

No horses were in the trailer at the time, officials said.

The flames spread to wildland, prompting a shutdown of I-17 lanes so crews could fight the brush fire at milepost 264.

Motorists experienced long delays. Many had to seek alternate routes.

All lanes opened by around 8 a.m. on Sunday, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

US 60 closed north of Globe due to Flying V brush fire

US 60 remains closed in both directions north of Globe between mileposts 256-311, according to ADOT.

The closure is due to a brush fire in the area.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and seek an alternate route.

There is no estimated time to reopen the highway.

Real-time highway conditions are available on ADOT’s Arizona Traveler Information site at az511.gov, the AZ511 app, calling 511 and through ADOT’s Twitter feed, @ArizonaDOT.
