Abrazo Arizona Heart Hospital expands capacity to meet Arizona’s growing heart care demand

Abrazo Arizona Heart Hospital is launching the largest expansion in its history, boosting both inpatient and procedural capacity to keep up with Arizona’s rapidly growing population and increasing demand for cardiovascular care.

Hospital leaders announced the project to strengthen the Phoenix facility’s role as a regional hub for specialized cardiac, vascular, and critical care services, as well as ongoing clinical research.

“When patients face a serious heart condition, timely access to specialized care can make all the difference,” Kimberly Blaha, president and chief administrative officer at Abrazo Arizona Heart Hospital, said in a news release. “This expansion allows us to care for more patients across Arizona and strengthens our role as a regional destination for nationally recognized heart and vascular care.”

The 59-bed hospital, dedicated exclusively to cardiovascular care, draws patients statewide for high-level treatments, including complex structural heart disease, cardiogenic shock, open-heart surgery, electrophysiology, and advanced vascular care.

The capacity expansion marks the latest phase of a multiyear series of investments aimed at upgrading facilities and technology across the health system.

“As one of Arizona’s only dedicated heart hospitals, we continue to shape cardiovascular care,” Brian Elisco, group chief executive officer for Abrazo Health, said. “Abrazo Health is proud to be investing in the next chapter of that legacy.”

Further details regarding the timeline and specific square footage of the expansion were not immediately released.
