High-speed crash involving 2 cars in north Phoenix leaves 1 dead, another with serious injuries

An early Sunday morning crash involving two vehicles in north Phoenix left a man dead and another hospitalized with serious injuries, authorities said.

Phoenix Fire personnel around 1 a.m. found 22-year-old Milson Marley Tessay, who was driving a sedan, and pronounced him dead at the scene near 12th Street and Bell Road.

An 18-year-old man who allegedly caused the collision was driving an SUV westward along Bell Road before hitting the sedan, which was traveling south on 12th Street.

The unidentified 18-year-old was assessed for “serious but non-life-threatening” injuries from the crash. He was hospitalized as of Sunday morning, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

Police believe speed and impairment were factors in the fatal accident.

Any charges toward the driver of the SUV will be decided following the investigation’s completion.
