A man is dead after being hit by a vehicle on Interstate 10 in Phoenix following him either falling off an overpass or walking across the freeway late Saturday night, according to authorities.
Officers assisted the Arizona Department of Public Safety near the 12th Street overpass on eastbound I-10 after learning about a man who had possibly fallen onto the freeway.
Phoenix Fire personnel also arrived at the scene around 11:40 p.m. and pronounced 66-year-old Max Jeffrey dead, according to the Phoenix Police Department.
Police said it is unclear if Jeffrey fell from the overpass or walked into traffic until they sort through video evidence.
The driver who struck Jeffrey remained at the scene to answer officers’ questions. They told police they believe Jeffrey had fallen from the overpass before the collision occurred.
