High-speed boat crash at Lake Havasu event leaves 2 people injured

Two people were injured following a high-speed boat crash during an event at Lake Havasu on Saturday, authorities said.

PHOENIX — Two people were injured following a high-speed boat crash during an event at Lake Havasu on Saturday, according to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash took place during the Desert Storm Shootout event near the area of Site Six. Desert Storm Shootout is an annual boat event that brings boat riders and enthusiasts from across the country to Lake Havasu. 

The boat was traveling on a closed course when it went airborne and crashed.

Following the crash, authorities arrived at the partially sunken speedboat and found the two riders exiting the boat. The two riders were placed on a rescue boat and were treated for minor injuries before being transported to a nearby ambulance and taken to a hospital.

Upon investigation, authorities said the speedboat was traveling around 210 miles per hour before the crash when it lost control. Both riders were wearing helmets, restraints and life jackets during the crash.
