Grand Canyon National Park’s South Rim returns to regular water operations after 2-week pipe repair

PHOENIX — All water restrictions at the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park have been lifted after park staff finished repairs on a damaged pipeline, authorities said Monday.

Water conservation measures were put into effect on July 15, marking a two-week response to the failure of the Trans Canyon Waterline. A few of those measures demanded of park residents and visitors were no watering of lawns, no washing of cars, taking shorter showers and turning off water while brushing teeth.

Park managers will handle any future water troubles at the landmark site by enforcing water restrictions based on the water levels in storage, a press release said.

Proposed restrictions include enforcing low-water cleaning practices in surrounding hotel rooms and temporarily closing public laundry, shower facilities and the RV dump/fill station at Camper Services.

Visitors are now free to explore one of the seven wonders of the world without concerns, but NPS advised future goers to continue practicing basic water conservation.
