Nearly 150 flights canceled at Sky Harbor with Winter Storm Fern rolling through US

PHOENIX — Travelers using Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport are being greatly affected by Winter Storm Fern, as 142 flights have been canceled since Saturday morning and another 82 have been delayed.

The storm has been predicted to be massive in scale, covering more than 34 states and impacting more than 220 million people, according to Weather.com’s Jonathan Erdman.

Four American Airlines’ flights originally scheduled for a Saturday evening departure at Sky Harbor are expected to take off through Sunday evening. These are heading to Charlotte, North Carolina, Los Cabos, Mexico, New Orleans, Louisiana and Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas.

Several flights to popular destinations and travel hubs such as Boston, New York and Philadelphia have been canceled on airlines including Southwest, Delta and United.

The winter storm is expected to accumulate “catastrophic” ice, which may lead to “widespread power outages and tree damage” through Monday, according to NOAA’s Weather Prediction Center.
