1 dead, 1 arrested after weekend shooting in West Valley

A 46-year-old man has been arrested in connection to a fatal shooting in Peoria on Saturday, police announced on Monday. Here are the details.

PHOENIX — A 46-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of fatally shooting a man over the weekend, the Peoria Police Department announced Monday.

Henry Juarez-Garcia was arrested on several felony charges, including first-degree murder, possession of dangerous drugs and possessing a weapon as a prohibited possessor, police said.

The shooting took place near 95th and Peoria avenues on Saturday, police said. Officers responded to reports of gunshots in the area shortly before 8 p.m.

They found the victim, 33-year-old James Durham, with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Witnesses told officers they saw several people flee the area in a red sedan, which police later pulled over before identifying Juarez-Garcia as the suspect.

Detectives are still investigating the events leading up to the fatal shooting in Peoria.
