Embry-Riddle Prescott creates nation’s first College of Business, Security and Intelligence

PHOENIX — Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott has combined its College of Security and Intelligence with the School of Business to create a one-of-a-kind opportunity for students.

The College of Business, Security and Intelligence (CBSI) is the first degree-granting college of its kind in the nation, according to the official website, with courses emphasizing research in global business, international security and global intelligence to prepare people for work on both the national and international level.

“Business today is international in scope and managers must contend with rapid and dynamic change, including technological risk and threats,” Embry-Riddle assistant professor Reg Parker, who previously worked in corporate security and risk assessment, said in a press release.

“CBSI graduates will integrate knowledge of the organizational behavior of people, and supply chain movement of products/processes for operational excellence.”

The college will utilize the university’s various multidisciplinary connections, according to the release, including cybersecurity in the aviation business, fraud investigations in forensic accounting, global security in supply chain management and business analytics with machine learning.

“I have met with many industry partners over the past year, and they have been overwhelmingly positive and supportive of this new college,” Dr. Anette M. Karlsson, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Prescott campus chancellor, said in the release.

“A senior executive at a large aerospace company told me, ‘This is exactly what we need in 2021.’”

The new college joins the university’s other offerings including the College of Aviation, College of Engineering and College of Arts and Sciences, according to the release, and makes it easier for students to participate in multidisciplinary projects by blending business with security and intelligence.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Prescott campus offers 25 undergraduate and three graduate degree programs, according to the release, and the creation of the new college will have no impact on any of the academic programs it encompasses as degree programs chosen will appear exactly the same on their diplomas.
