Dinner is coming: Medieval Times expects to open in Scottsdale in July

PHOENIX – If you’re hungry for a taste of the Middle Ages right here in the Valley, dinner is coming.

Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament said this week it’s anticipating a late July opening for its Scottsdale castle and released menu and price details.

The entertainment and dining venue, which serves four-course meals while costumed performers compete in jousting, sword fighting and other knightly games, has begun taken reservations for shows beginning Sept. 1.

General admission is $45.95 or adults and $35.95 for kids 12 and under. Children 3 and under can sit on an adult’s lap and share the meal for free.

Tacking on $15-$25 for a VIP upgrade gets you preferred seating, commemorative items and early access to the Grand Arena.

Pre-September ticket sales will begin once the exact opening date has been determined.

Meals, which are service without utensils as part of the experience, consist of garlic bread, tomato bisque, roasted chicken, buttered corn, herb-basted potatoes, a dessert, coffee and two rounds of select drinks.

Vegan and vegetarian options are also available, and patrons can order from a full bar, too.

Last week, the venue started hiring about 200 employees for a variety of positions, most in food service or preparation and retail.

But since this is no typical restaurant, there were also openings for trumpeters, spot lighters, stable workers, wardrobe workers and squires.

That’s right, squires — performers who assist the knights during shows while training for their own knighthood (think Podrick from “Game of Thrones”).

Scottsdale’s first nine Knights of the Realm were selected through a castle, er, casting call in February.

The men selected endured a three-month training program at a ranch outside Dallas, where they were immersed in a world of horse care and riding, weaponry, performance/choreography and physical conditioning.

Construction on the company’s 10th castle and first in Arizona started in April 2018 on Via de Ventura west of the Loop 101 Pima Freeway.
