PHOENIX – Authorities are investigating the death of a man found hanging from an iron fence Wednesday morning in the West Valley.

It is believed the unidentified man had been stuck for more than three hours before being found dead by responding officers, Glendale Police Sgt. John Roth said in an email.

Police were called to the scene near 47th Avenue and Bethany Home Road around 5:30 a.m. The man was hanging upside down from the fence when officers arrived.

Roth said it appeared he got stuck after falling while trying to climb over the fence. His legs were caught between the bars, Roth said.

Detectives didn’t see any signs of criminal activity.

Initial reports indicated that the man was a transient, Roth said.

The medical examiner’s office was investigating the cause of death.
