Wrong-way crash in northern Arizona leaves child, 4 others dead

PHOENIX — A wrong-way collision in northern Arizona early Saturday morning left a child and four other people dead, authorities said.

Around 2:17 a.m., a muti-vehicle crash occurred on US-93 northbound in White Hills, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Authorities said a Jeep station wagon was headed north in the southbound lane when the vehicle collided with a Hyundai station wagon.

The vehicles caught on fire as a result of the crash.

The Hyundai had a man, woman and child in the vehicle while the Jeep had two men inside the vehicle.

All five people involved in the crash died due to the fire and blunt force trauma, DPS said.

Impairment is suspected as a possible factor into the crash.

The investigation remains ongoing.
