PHOENIX – As businesses start to reopen after the coronavirus closures, Chandler is making parking downtown a little easier.
The city has installed temporary 30-minute free parking signage in the Downtown Historic Square for visitors picking up take out orders or running errands.
The new signs are located along San Marcos Place from Boston Street to Commonwealth Avenue and along Boston Street from Arizona Avenue to part of Oregon Street.
“As businesses continue to serve their patrons with carryout and delivery options, they also are preparing to open their doors in the coming weeks,” Chandler Downtown Redevelopment Specialist John Carter Owens said in a press release Friday.
“This will provide customers easier access to support our Downtown merchants.”
The city worked with Downtown Chandler Community Partnership to implement the signs.
On Monday, retail businesses that aren’t on the state’s essential businesses list can sell goods by walk-up, drive-thru or curbside service.
Starting May 8, stores can open as long as they follow newly established guidelines.
For now, restaurants are still limited to take out and delivery options, but Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey said Wednesday he is working on plans for dine-in service to resume in a limited capacity later in May.
