3 arrested after man allegedly threatened at gunpoint at Chandler Fashion Center

Two men allegedly threatened another man at gunpoint at Chandler Fashion Center on Monday. All three men were later arrested.

PHOENIX — Three men were taken into custody after one of the men was allegedly threatened at gunpoint by the other two at Chandler Fashion Center, authorities said.

The incident took place Monday around 8:45 p.m. at the mall near Chandler Boulevard and Price Road, according to the Chandler Police Department.

Jalen Bails-Bacchus, 19, and Jeremiah Bagby, 22, were arrested at the shopping center on charges including aggravated assault and disorderly conduct in connection with this case. The pair will also face drug charges after being found in possession of a suspected dangerous drug at a holding facility, police said.

John Lathrop, 53, was arrested at his home on charges of threats and disorderly conduct for his role in the incident, police added.

Details of incident at Chandler Fashion Center that led to arrests

Officers responded to the mall after bystanders called 911 to report seeing two men threaten another man at gunpoint near the food court.

Police found the men arguing in a store nearby. Bails-Bacchus and Bagby had guns on them and were taken into custody, police said.

After speaking with witnesses and reviewing surveillance video and other evidence, officers learned that Lathrop allegedly sparked the incident by approaching Bails-Bacchus and Bagby, threatening them and attempting to hit them.

Bails-Bacchus and Bagby then allegedly pulled out their guns and pointed the weapons at Lathrop. The duo followed Lathrop into the food court while allegedly yelling threats at him and pointing the guns at the back of his head.

No one was hurt.

The investigation into this case remains open.
